         “Kimberly Marie (Simpson) Matthews was born on August 8, 1984, in Washington, DC, to Kenn Simpson & Sherzon Simpson.  Kim embodied faith, grace, and courage.  On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Kim left her earthly body to abide with her Lord Jesus Christ.   At a very young age, she was led to the Lord by her mother, where she confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  Kim was active at her home church, North East Baptist Temple in Clinton, MD, working in the nursery, singing in the choir, and serving under Pastor Lynwood Davis Sr.  Eventually, Kim would make Virginia Beach, VA her home with her husband, Simon P. Matthews, and attending New Life Church where they would worship for nine years.

          Kim attended Clinton Grove Elementary School and graduated from High Point High School in 2002.  She excelled in creative writing, poetry, drawing, painting, and acting.  Kim’s high school artwork was selected by Maryland Congressman Steny Hoyer and hung in his office.  Kim was listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.” She won the Women’s Film Award for the public service address entitled “Hoop Dreams,”.  Kim received the certificate of “Special Congressional Recognition” for her participation in an Artistic Discovery for the Congressional Art Competition for High School students.  She received the “President’s Education Award” from Former President Bill Clinton.  Kim was a contestant in the Miss Maryland USA Pageant in 2003 and 2005.  In 2004, Kim received a call from actor Jamie Foxx, to be one of the background singers in the movie “Ray,” but declined the offer as she felt the Lord’s pull in another direction.

           In 2006, Kim was accepted into the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art’s and graduated in December 2007.  She earned her associate degree in 2012 from Prince George’s Community College.  In 2017, Kim received her bachelor’s degree in animation from Regent University and also worked there from 2012 to November 2023.  Kim was also awarded her Posthumous Degree in Computer Science, and her name will be called at Regent’s Graduation Ceremony in May of 2024.

          In 2015, Kim started dating the love of her life, Simon Peter Matthews, and they were married on November 2018.  In one of her most memorable moments, she smiled through her battle at the opportunity to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary just days before her passing.  devoted to his men’s group, found peace in the mountains, being creative in his woodshop and behind his camera or computer.  He was an avid reader and lover of history, politics, and music. He found true joy in making sacrifices for his family and friends, who are all better people for having known him.
