Cheryl Phyllis Scharp, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on June 27, 2023, after a fighting a valiant battle with cancer over the last 20 years. Cheryl was 76 years old and resided in Monument Colorado with her husband, Bob Scharp. Throughout her years with cancer she maintained a positive attitude and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Cheryl was born on December 10, 1946 in Winona, Minnesota to her parents, Phillip and Germaine Naas. She was oldest of her two siblings, Paula, and Phillip Naas. Cheryl graduated from Golden High School in 1965 and has continued friendships with many of her childhood and High School friends. Cheryl graduated from Colorado State College (University of Northern Colorado), in 1968 with a degree in Elementary Education. Cheryl married her high school sweetheart, Bob Scharp, on August 8, 1969. Cheryl and Bob had two children, Paula, and Jacob. Paula and her husband, Trent Engler, have two children, Derrek Balser (17) and Ella Engler (11). Her amazing grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was an active and vital part of their life.
Cheryl was an outstanding elementary school teacher for over 30 years. She impacted the life of countless students with her creative, fun, and supportive teaching style. In 1998, Cheryl attended graduate school for Counseling Psychology in Brisbane Australia, and opened a private practice when she moved to Monument, Colorado in 2001. Cheryl continued her legacy of helping children and families in her role as a counselor. In her retirement she focused on being a devoted Grandmother and her Grandchildren are blessed to have been known and loved so unconditionally by her. Bob and Cheryl Scharp had the honor of being married for nearly 54.
